Red Hot Chili Peppers – Dark Necessities

I’m really happy that the Red Hot Chili Peppers went down this path with their music. They are using guitarist Josh Klinghoffer in a good way. I felt like they lost their sound and identity when John Frusciante left. Their 2011 album “I’m With You” was different in a bad way for me. But this new track “Dark Necessities” is beautiful. From the second I heard it on the radio I thought to myself “This is a new song. Who is this? Wow, that base is amazing.” At that point I still didn’t know who’s song this was. The intro rhythm of the bass was light, slowly building up to the main bass line of the song. Then the guitar slowly creeps in with the drums trailing not too far behind it. Then the guitar drops off and the bass line gets super funky out of nowhere. Excitement comes over me and I think “Is this the Chili Peppers? It sounds like something Flea would play. Do they have a new song?” While all these questions are buzzing around in my head a piano comes into the mix and I hear Anthony Kiedis’ voice. I smile and think “It is them…” as I nod my head to the song.

The song is fucking perfect. It is different from their other radio hits but in a good way. My drive through heavy traffic was made better for  approximately five minutes and two seconds.
